Continuous challenges and new projects to be implemented in ever shorter time frames are the current market demands that companies must try to meet. They are therefore required to create increasingly efficient processes in order to remain competitive and, in order to do so, to adapt to the digital transformation that sees the integration of new technologies into processes. One of the tools with which to analyse the performance of a production line is the use of discrete event simulation. Indeed, simulative systems make it possible to simulate all the phases of a production process, creating a real Digital Twin, so that control operations can be carried out on the process in order to improve it, optimizing performance, reducing time to market, reducing expenses related to experimental tests, and being able to carry out preventive maintenance knowing in advance what the process failures will be. The case study, carried out at ABB S.p.A., concerns an analysis carried out precisely with the support of a simulation software with the aim of observing the performance of a production line currently present in the factory and analysing how this will change following the introduction of two robotic cells.
