In recent years, the topic of sustainability has become increasingly important. Several industrial companies have already embarked on a virtuous path that will lead them towards a green transition, other companies, however, are encountering several obstacles along this path. This studypresents the results of an investigation carried out at the Carlo Cattaneo University - LIUC, in collaboration with the Freight Leader Council. The aim of this thesis was to explore a currently little-known context, namely that of the consideration and implementation of ESG principles in relations between companies and suppliers, within different business practices and tendering processes. This interest stems from the considerable impact of this sector on our planet in terms of its contribution to Ghg emissions. The methodology used to write this thesis is based on qualitative data analysis. The information is gathered through a series of interviews conducted with leading companies active in the transport chain and other important industries operating in the large-scale retail sector. The first chapter is dedicated to introducing the key concepts inherent to the topic of sustainability. In particular, the three different aspects related to ESG principles: Environmental, Social and Governance are explored. The origin of these values and the reasons for their increasing relevance over time will be examined. Finally, the last paragraph presents an interesting insight into the connection between sustainability and the financial world. The second chapter initially provides an overview of the logistics sector. Thus, the various activities carried out within this context are presented, together with the various actors that are part of it. It then moves on to a statistical analysis of the sector, comparing Italian figures with European and global ones and providing an insight into the rapid evolution of recent years. Finally, a paragraph is entirely dedicated to the 6 relationship between logistics and sustainability, taking a close look at every aspect of ESG principles. The last paragraph presents the objectives of the research. During the third chapter, the methodology used for the elaboration of this paper is examined in depth. It is a qualitative analysis that makes use of the information gathered through the various interviews and focus groups in order to construct an adequate analysis of the results. For this reason, the research questions within this section will provide useful support for the orientation of the thesis. The fourth chapter describes in detail the application of the previously presented methodology. In this section, the different approaches used for both the collection of information and its processing are discussed in detail. The fifth and final chapter of the paper is dedicated to the analysis of the results. In the first part of this section, the summaries obtained from the unwinding of the interview texts are presented. Subsequently, the work focused on word analysis, focusing on the most significant and most repeated terms. Then, working on this data through the T-Lab software, it was possible to carry out a co-occurrence analysis in order to search for possible connections between the different elements and obtain insights into their mutual relationship. Subsequently, a very in-depth analysis was conducted from the text of the interviews, which made it possible to identify five main macro-themes. Through this synthesis work, it was possible to provide a detailed overview of the main actions taken by companies in the field of sustainability, while at the same time identifying the barriers preventing the adoption of these principles and, lastly, providing practical advice for the implementation of these practices. Finally, the final focus group served to confirm the results obtained, offering some additional insights that were useful to the cause
