Abstract

The last few years have been characterised by events that have shaken the markets in addition to the climate crisis, with the role of sustainability becoming increasingly crucial. This thesis presents the results of a research conducted at the LIUC - Carlo Cattaneo University with the intention of contributing to the growing body of knowledge on the environmental sustainability of logistics processes in this context of ongoing change. In particular, the study provides a framework of Green Logistics Practices that can be used by researchers and practitioners to identify environmentally friendly best practices and understand the company's positioning with respect to the Italian landscape, ultimately identifying possible opportunities for improvement and efficiency. Pinpointing the best solutions allows to reduce the environmental impact of firms while also being a source of competitive advantage. The study proposes a conceptual model that divides Green Logistics into four main domains, namely Packaging and Loading Units, Warehouse and Intra-logistics, Transport and Distribution, and finally Supply Chain and Organisation, which are influenced by managerial commitment on sustainability issues and the perceived from inside and outside the organisation. The designed research methodology is the survey: a structured questionnaire was developed and sent to companies operating in several industries. Over three hundred reliable responses were collected, whose information was analysed using statistical tools for both descriptive and inferential analysis. Using the data collected from the survey, a confirmatory composite analysis was performed in the PLS-SEM environment to verify the validity and reliability of the proposed constructs. The national survey will be extended abroad in the near future to compare and improve the findings.
