ABSTRACT This thesis strives to demonstrate that even financial professionals with limited programming skills can leverage the power of AI to develop useful tools for financial planning and analysis (FP&A) tasks. To reach this objective ChatGPT and Python will be exploited. For this thesis, database tables will be created for three years of financial data. The tables will include data from the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows. Once the tables are created, they will be populated with sample data from a fictional company, and then that data will be extracted and analyzed to create financial ratios, identify trends and make forecasts. In addition, by assuming that the fictional company belongs to the Travel and Tourism industry, its performance will be measured compared to the industry data to compute a benchmarking. To further showcase the power of programming and AI, a basic chatbot in python will be created. ChatGPT will generate all Python code according to the prompts provided. To further enhance the thesis, an experiment using the Notable Plugin of ChatGPT has been computed. It is worth nothing that the plugin was integrated to ChatGPT in a subsequent phase, when the thesis was already completed. This addition has enabled streamlined data access and improved user interface, improving the functionality of the tool. The study concludes that by exploiting programming languages and AI, it is possible to automate several analysis and reporting tasks, which will allow analysts to save time and devote it to more strategic activities. This project also highlights the importance of continuous learning and development of skills in emerging technologies, particularly as the finance industry becomes increasingly data driven. RIASSUNTO Questa tesi si propone di dimostrare che anche i professionisti finanziari con limitate competenze di programmazione possono sfruttare il potere dell'Intelligenza Artificiale (AI) per sviluppare strumenti utili per le attività di pianificazione finanziaria e analisi (FP&A). Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, la tesi usufruirà di ChatGPT e Python. Verranno creati database contenenti dati finanziari relativi al Conto Economico, al Bilancio e al Rendiconto Finanziario. Una volta creati i database, essi verranno popolati con dati campione di un'azienda fittizia, e questi dati saranno estratti e analizzati per creare rapporti finanziari, identificare tendenze e fare previsioni. Successivamente, assumendo che l'azienda fittizia faccia parte del settore dei Viaggi e del Turismo, le sue prestazioni verranno confrontate con i dati del settore per compiere un’analisi di benchmarking. Per dimostrare ulteriormente il potere della programmazione e dell'AI, verrà creato un chatbot che consente agli utenti di interagire con i dati finanziari in modo più veloce e conversazionale, invece di dover cercare manualmente i dati all’interno di documenti lunghi e complessi. Tutti i codici Python presenti nella tesi sono generati da ChatGPT in risposta agli input forniti. Per arricchire ulteriormente la tesi, è stato eseguito un esperimento utilizzando il Plugin Notable di ChatGPT. È importante notare che il plugin è stato integrato a ChatGPT in una fase successiva, quando la tesi era già completata. Questa aggiunta ha permesso un accesso semplificato ai dati e ha migliorato l'interfaccia per l’utente, migliorando dunque le funzionalità dello strumento. Lo studio conclude che sfruttando i linguaggi di programmazione e l'IA, è possibile automatizzare diverse attività di analisi e reporting, consentendo agli analisti di risparmiare tempo e dedicarlo a attività più strategiche. La tesi evidenzia anche l'importanza dell'apprendimento continuo e dello sviluppo di competenze nelle tecnologie emergenti, in particolare nel contesto di un'industria finanziaria sempre più orientata ai dati.
