Abstract

This paper is aimed at looking at the different features, advantages and disadvantages of two phenomena that changed the way people work: Crowdsourcing and Gig Economy. The first one is a new method that permits the gathering of information from people or the solving of tasks, as micro-tasks. The second is the economy of the little works, which permits people to earn money by becoming the boss of themselves. Consider that, the first two chapters of the paper deal with these two aspects. More in detail, the whole work is the report of the internship at MindEarth sārl, a Swiss applied research company operating in the fields of advanced spatial analytics, merging remote sensing, high-frequency mobility data analysis, and spatial data gathered from crowd-based street-level technology, which gathers big spatial data to extract location insight on consumer behavior and cities anywhere and at any time, to help companies make better-informed business decisions. In details, the aim was to find a new way to to bring the company into the new worlds of Crowdsourcing and Gig Economy, and the result was the development of an innovative online app. Before devising the project, a research about other companies that operate within these two worlds has been made by analyzing aspects such as terms of use, rules, security, insurance and pension funds. After every aspect of every selected company has been studied, a comparative framework was done considering every company. From this were drawn out all the possible ideas for the MindEarth’s project. Lastly, the final chapter highlights the project that was presented to the company.
