Abstract

Radical changes occurred in the competitive environment of manufacturing industries due to globalization and modern global competition. The result of these changes is that every firm have to develop and to pursue strategic objectives making them able to create, in the market place, an advantage in comparison with others. The most important goals, for all industries, are to increase productivity and to improve the total efficiency on the production. It's necessary finding a strategy formula of the productivity improvement to achieve these objectives. Starting from 2005, the formula of WCM was captured by Fiat Group with the help of experts from Japan universities. It seeks to bring the production standards to an higher standard, worldwide recognized. It's possible to explain WCM as an "integrated production system". It integrates the whole factory organization. It proposes and develops a long term improvement of the system with the constantly reduction of any type of waste or loss. The best aspects and benefits of Toyota Production System are taken in consideration. The aim of this work is to introduce you into one of the most important automotive Company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, who adopted the World Class Manufacturing. The target ,now, is to explore the "WCM methodology" starting from the literature to the application in a FCA plant in Turkey (Tofaş), after a general overview of Turkish automotive sector, studying also the impact on the extension and integration of suppliers into WCM program. The WCM Program in Tofaş started in May 2006, in less than 7 years, in 2013 was achieved the “Golden Level”. The most important obtained improvements are the drastically reduction of accident frequencies (-97%), an important reduction in transformation cost (+35), improvement in Hours per Vehicle (20%) and improvement in products quality (+60%).These achievements were possible thanks the participation of all Tofaş employees that have believed in the WCM, working hard and motivating them day by day. This is a demonstration that the implementation of Lean doesn’t depend strictly on national cultures like Japanese but from the ability of the Company (people) to build a Lean culture that is based on the values of the elimination of wastes, continuous improvements, according to the value for the customers and on the social dimension of the organization. FCA Group has understood the importance and the strategy to create a strong Supplier- customer relation that have an important impact on the own business. FCA thanks to WCM Supplier Program involved own both worldwide and local Suppliers. FCA is investing, to have strong-collaborative cooperation, sharing knowledge to help them to achieve best performance. The benefits are for both Companies, Customer and Supplier. It’s necessary to be lean along all Supply Chain to achieve their first common goal: the creation of customer value.
