The purpose of this internship was to have an experience of the “real life”, to understand how a company works and how I should use what I learnt. I spent this period in a company called Monteferro, one of the biggest worldwide provider of guide rails and hoistway system. I had to followed the Project X, that is a new line of product planned by the most important Monteferro’s client, Customer Y, and to analyze the best way to produce it at the lowest cost. During the project, many areas and many points have been treated. In fact, it has been done a Design Optimization to checked the new prototypes and prepare the actions; than suppliers have been contacted to organize the production process. Subsequently thanks to the Cost Analysis was possible to estimate the total cost for each of the four prototypes and with the Make-or-Buy Decisions these costs have been decreased further. It is emerged that some costs, such as the Process Laser Cost could be reduced of about 14%. This opportunity was not immediately evident due to lack of some drawings and information received only afterwards. For this reason, a possible improvement could be to deepen some analysis like the Cost Analysis, especially the Make-or-Buy Decisions in order to decrease the cost, and the Supplier Development Process because it could create new treats Moreover, it has been organized the Monteferro’s databases in order to obtain the BoM requested for the production. At end, it has been prepared an analysis to estimate all the issues with the aim of finding solutions that can avoid future problems. Unfortunately, I have not had time to follow the Project X until the end. At the moment it is a in a budgeting process, but with the beginning of the real production, more other stuffs have to deepen, do and improve.
